Melodie Instructions:
DUAL OUTPUT MODE

Getting Started with Melodie Dual Output Mode

1. First thing’s first: set up your projector (or secondary output device) as an extended desktop. To do this, go into you operating system’s display configuration (often found in the control panel) and select the secondary device and click the “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor” checkbox. See figure below:

When running Melodie, if you find that text is being cutoff or the display is too small/large on the secondary monitor, you may want to try adjusting the Screen Resolution from this same window.

2. Next, run the Melodie application and select “Dual Output Mode”

After clicking this button -- provided the output devices have been setup right -- your primary monitor should now display a form called the “Control Panel”, and the secondary monitor (monitor 2, or the projector) should be completely blank.

Using the Melodie Control Panel

The Melodie control panel consists of seven tabs of features/options, persistent buttons down the center that will not change despite what tab you might be currently in, and a persistent preview pane that displays the data currently loaded onto screen 2.

First we’ll start with the tab labeled “Main” which is also the default tab, and we’ll then discuss each of the center buttons, and then talk about the rest of the 6 tabs.

To load up a song, simply type in the song number and press the enter key. If you do not know the number of a song, you can use either the quick inline searching function (preferred, see below), or the search tool.

Maneuvering in a Song:

Once a song is loaded, the following commands are available to move around in the song.

V: The 'V' command, followed by a number, will move the song to the specified verse number. For example, to move to verse 2, you would type in 'V2' and then press the enter key.

R: The 'R' command, followed by a number, will move the song to the refrain stanza that follows the specified verse number. For example, to move to the Refrain of Verse 2, you would type in R2, and the press the enter key.

C: The 'C' command provides the same functionality as the 'R' command. See directions on the 'R' command.

Searching for a Song

Inline searching:

To quickly search for a song, type in the name of the song in the command area located on the bottom right of the screen. The search mechanism will query the database for song titles, and song first-lines. If a single song is found, that song will automatically load in the main song window. If more than one song is found, a small listing will appear right near the command area. Use the arrow keys to select the right some and press the [enter] key.

Using the Search Tool (F3):

The search tool is a more thorough search of the song database. Use the checkboxes to select the depth of search you want to perform. By default, two check boxes are pre-selected: song titles, song first lines. You can expand this search to include the entire text of songs by selecting the last checkbox "Full text search". Results will appear on the listing window. Once you find the song you are looking for, you may double click the song to have it appear in the main song window.

Playlists

What is a playlist: In the event that you know beforehand all the songs that want to display in a session, you may use the playlist feature to load your list of songs.

Creating a playlist: To create a playlist, right click the mouse button anywhere on the screen while in normal mode, and click on the playlist option.

type in the number or the name of the song to add it to the playlist. You may use the "down" and "up" keys to sort your playlist. If you don't know the exact number of a song, simply type in a few words of the first line of the song, or the title of the song, and click the 'add' button. A search result listing will appear below allowing you to select the correct song to your list. Verify the song is accurate by clicking on a song (in the result list, or the playlist) to have the entire song preload on the preview pane. Once complete, click the 'Apply' button, and then the 'OK' button to exit. It is important that you click the 'Apply' button for the playlist to be properly set.

Moving through items on a playlist:

Once a playlist is created, when in Normal mode, you can quickly move to the next song (and back to a previous one) from your playlist by simply clicking the '+' and '-'keys on the keyboard. The '+' key will move to the next song on the playlist, and the '-' key will move to the previous song on a playlist. Holding the shift key is not required to execute these two commands.

Loading a Bible Verse:

To open up a bible verse or passage:

Single Verse:

1. Enter 3 letter book abbreviation, followed by a chapter and a verse, eg: luk 3 4 (will open Luke chapter 3, verse 4. (You may also replace the space after the chapter by a ";", or a ":")

Multiple Verse:

2. Similar to opening up a single verse, but follow the verse number with a hyphen, and the ending verse. For example, for the first 10 verses of Psalm 119, you would type in Psa 119 1-10

Special Book Abbreviations:

Books with a number preceding them, like 1st Kings, would be 1ki, or 2nd Chronicles, would be 2ch

Watch out for Bible books that are not the first 3 characters of the book name, for example

Philemon: PHL

Judges  : JDG

Using the Bible Search tool: (F5)

The bible search tool can be used to commit an exhaustive search into the bible for a specific word or series of words. The application will search the entire text of the bible, and return the passage that match your query, and you may click on an item to view a preview of the verse, or double click an item to quickly display it on the screen.
